As the musical Wicked enchants audiences in theatres worldwide this week, we find ourselves reminiscing about one of our most magical wedding creations: The Road to Oz. Much like the timeless journey through the Emerald City, this wedding was a celebration of green in all its splendor. With green's profound symbolic meaning and its striking versatility, it became the cornerstone of a design that intertwined beauty, balance, and deeper connotations. Here's a closer look at how we wove this iconic color into every facet of the wedding day.
Choosing the perfect green was the first and most critical step in the design process. From the deep, enchanting hues reminiscent of the Emerald City to softer, pastel greens inspired by nature's gentle touch, the shade sets the tone. For The Road to Oz, we leaned into a rich jewel tone, paired with complementary accents that evoked luxury and vibrancy. The right green must reflect the mood you wish to create—be it opulent or serene—while harmonizing with your venue and lighting. .
Green is often the backdrop of nature, but when it's the star of the show, the supporting cast of flowers must be chosen carefully. We balanced the richness of green with delicate whites, soft yellows, and pops of burnt orange to create an elegant contrast. For a cohesive look, we used florals that are unconventional across the wedding space, which softened the vibrancy of green while adding texture and romance. For an indoor ballroom, the shade of green must adapt to the setting's ambiance and lighting. Warm greens with golden undertones work beautifully in spaces with natural light, while cooler greens create an ethereal atmosphere in softly lit or candlelit settings. In The Road to Oz, our customised drapes in a unique colour by MOD and lush table designs createed a regal, immersive experience, while lighter green accents ensured the space felt inviting and not overwhelming.
The choice of furniture is pivotal when working with green. Light, natural wood complements lighter shades of green for a fresh and organic aesthetic, while darker, lacquered pieces exude sophistication and drama. We incorporated transluscent chairs and cement finish tables to reflect and amplify the emerald tones in The Road to Oz. This interplay of furniture and color created a balance of elegance and visual interest.

Beyond aesthetics, green carries deep symbolic meanings that resonate with weddings: faith, unity, and renewal. It’s the color of life, growth, and hope, making it a perfect representation of the promises exchanged on a wedding day. In The Road to Oz, every design choice celebrated these values, reminding us that a wedding is not just a visual masterpiece but also a story of meaning and love.
